NHPC Limited, a premier Government of India Enterprise currently engaged in developing two power stations over Teesta River near Rambi and Kalijhora signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) withthe Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) for establishing an Engineering College in GTA area in a function held at LalKothi, Darjeeling yesterday
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Dr.Saumitra Mohan, Principal Secretary, GTA on behalf of GTA and Sh. S.R. Roy, Executive Director, Siliguri Region, NHPC Ltd. on behalf of NHPC. Sh. R.K. Verma, General Manager, Teesta Low Dam Projects, NHPC, Sh. SonamBhutia, Secretary Power,GTA, Sh. BhaskarMoktan, Secretary Engineering, GTA and Sh. Nikhil Kumar Verma, Assistant Manager (HR), TLDP-III were also present on this occasion, informs a press release.
Sh. BimalGurung , Chief Executive, GTA expressed his satisfaction in the initiative taken by NHPC and believed it will usher an educational revolution in the GTA area.
As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility and Community Development, establishing of the Engineering College at Takdah is a major step in sharing the benefits of development with the people of GTA area.
The initiatives for establishing the engineering college is a fulfillment of the commitment made by NHPC in the past. The engineering college in Takdah region will be the first of its kind in the hills and will enable the local youths of GTA area to pursue engineering courses nearby rather than to move to other parts of the state and the country to pursue higher studies.
