CPRM torch protest for democracy on foundation day

Protesting against the local administration for not allowing them hold a public meeting marking its 17th foundation day, the Communist Party Revolutionary Marxist (CPRM) today gheraoed Kalimpong police station and chanted slogans slamming lack of democracy in the GJM ruled GTA.CPRM supporters outside the station lighted a torched signifying search for democracy in the Darjeeling hills, policemen were quickto shut the main door of the station to avert law and order problems. According to its schedule, the CPRM wassupposed to celebrate its 17th foundation day at Damber Chowk of this subdivision town and had sought permission from the administration on December 5. They were however denied public assembly and were asked to hold it indoors prompting the party leaders doubt the police’s integrity.The outfit however marked its foundation day meeting at Govind Kunj hall after a ceremonial flag hoisting and praying tribute to Gorkhaland martyrs at its office here. The indoor meeting however took place after angry CPRM workers gheraoed the police station and demonstrated against the administration for denying permission, which later turned into an unannounced rally venue.They also submitted a memorandum seeking reasons for the denial to the Darjeeling District Magistrate through the local authorities. The angry supporters later dispersed for their indoor function at Govind Kunj here.
