KOLKATA: The Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) leaders in Darjeeling have renewed their demand for inclusion of TeraiBSE 4.81 % and Dooars in the newly constructed Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA) Sabha.
Terai and Dooars are located in the planes of Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri districts, but the GJM has been demanding inclusion of these regions under the GTA Aabha which means that the Gorkhas will run the administration in the two regions of Terai and Dooars where Gorkha population is less compared to the three Darjeeling sub-divisions of Kalimpong, Kurseong and Darjeeling.
The GJM leader Roshan Giri is currently in Delhi and will be holding talks with the Union home ministry regarding their demand for inclusion of Terai and Dooars. Giri has left Darjeeling for Delhi on last Tuesday along with their Darjeeling MLA Tilak Dewan.

Giri said on Wednesday that even though they had signed the tripartite agreement with the Centre and West Bengal
governments and formed the GTA Sabha following their agreement, they
were not giving up their demand for inclusion of two areas in the planes
of north Bengal into the GTA Sabha. "We know that the state government
would not be able to fulfil our demand. Therefore, we will urge the
Centre to make necessary changes in the constitution to enable us to
take control over the Terai and Dooars. Moreover, we will demand from
the Centre immediate release of Rs 200 crore to the GTA Sabha which the
Centre had promised us. Even though the Centre had promised to give us
Rs 200 crore for overall development of the Hills, we have so far
received just Rs 35 crores from them. During our meeting with the Union
home ministry, we will raise this demand also," Giri said.
Darjeeling was tensed after the GJM demanded inclusion of Terai and Dooars into the GTA sabha. Mamata Banerjee's government had turned down the GJM's demand for the inclusion.
There were clashes between GJM workers and residents of Terai and Dooars who had opposed inclusion of their localities into the GTA sabha. But for the past nine months, Darjeeling remained peaceful as the GJM was silent over their old demand.
But now the GJM leaders have raised the issue again and will hold talks with the Centre over the issue. Giri and Dewan are now in Delhi and supposed to meet senior home ministry officials there to discuss their demand. ends.
