The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) deputy chief cum the sports department in-charge Ramesh Allay today said that the GTA has been trying best for the promotion of the sports not only in the urban area but in the rural places as well. In a meeting held recently the members of the Kalimpong Sports Association (KSA) was reshuffled which also had the presence of the Kalimpong sub divisional officer LN Sherpa.
He laid emphasis on the setting up of the GTA sports council at the earliest to promote sports like football, volleyball, archery, hockey, karate etc in the Hills. Allay stated that it is just the matter of the fact that the GTA chief Bimal Gurung had personally insisted for the creation of the sports department in the GTA.
‘We shall nurture the rural talents by providing them wider platforms’ said Allay.
Informing about a formation of the adhoc committee he said the following members are chosen that include Syam Lama as the president of the committee, Urgen lama as the working president, Dendup Bhutia as the general secretary, Prashad Pradhan as the treasurer, Cap Albert Lepcha and others as the members. The executives of the KSA will be chosen from the adhoc committee he added.
Chosen Syam Lama is the technical member of the Mohan Bagan Sail Academy and Under-19 team selector. Dendup Bhutia is the general secretary of the North Bengal and Sikkim.
Allay applauded the contribution made by the KSA since its inception in the field of sports. He said that the re-shuffled was done in order to strengthen the association. He also informed about the introduction of hockey for the girls under the GTA. It is the effort of the GTA to bring different sports under one umbrella said Allay.
