Darjeeling,TT. Dec. 7: The Gorkha
Janmukti Yuva Morcha has decided to “temporarily” withdraw its
indefinite strike in Mirik from 5pm today. The shutdown had started at
6am today.
The strike was
called yesterday to protest the arrest of party activist Firoz Tamang in
a case of alleged vandalising of a GNLF supporter’s house in Mirik.
Tamang has been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
Priyabardhan Rai,
the general secretary of the Yuva Morcha, said: “We held a meeting today
and it was decided that since the annual examinations are going on in
educational institutions, it would not be proper to carry on with the
indefinite strike.”
He added that the party could resume the agitation after a few days.
