The Sikkim-Darjeeling United Front strongly supporting for the unification of Sikkim and Darjeeling today said that the unification can result a significant role of the duo at the national level.The convener of the party, Subodh Pakhrin addressing the media in the capital said that the unification shall provide 8 MPs by which they can really play a big role in the national politics. He also appealed the youths, the NGOs in generating awareness on the issue. ‘We also have plans to meet the chief minister Pawan Chamling on the regard and we have hoped for the positive answer’ said Pakhrin.He highlighted that the party has been raising the issue since 2004 and has been getting positive responses from the Central leaders. The West Bengal Government on the other hand has issued a notification that Darjeeling was not the part of the West Bengal. Pointing the notification, he said that Sikkim has to take initiatives to restore the lost territory he informed. The party also met the Governor Balmiki Prasad Singh recently, and submitted a resolution on the same he informed.Also present, the president of Gorkha Rastriya Congress, Neema Lama stressed on the restoration of the lost territory. Both Darjeeling and Sikkim has to think broader on the issue he added.
