TMC can’t split our support base - GJMM

GJMM chief, Mr Bimal Gurung
SILIGURI, 26 FEB: Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJMM) leaders in the Terai and the Dooars region are confident that the Trinamul Congress would not be able to split its support base ahead of the upcoming rural polls despite several attempts.

The Terai and Dooars-based leaders though admitted that the Trinamul Congress has formed its units with help from party-dissidents in the region, they claimed that the upcoming rural poll results would clear the picture about the actual strength of the GJMM.
The GJMM chief, Mr Bimal Gurung, held a meeting with his party workers from the Dooars and the Terai within a short notice in Darjeeling yesterday to prevent the Trinamul’s attempt from splitting the Hill-based party's  organisation.
The acting president of the GJMM Dooars committee, Mr Ashok Lama, said: “The Trinamul Congress would not be able to garner supporters from our organisation despite several baits. The results of rural polls would clear the reality.”
“We would not comment on the former GJMM activists who joined the Trinamul and about their activities present activities or the party’s strategies to take on them,” Mr Lama said.
On the other hand, the GJMM’s Terai committee president, Mr Shankar Adhikari, said: “A few GJMM activists, who resigned from the party a few months ago, have joined the Trinamul Congress for their vested interests. The Trinamul Congress would not be able to motivate our dedicated activists in the plains, who are fighting for a separate state of Gorkhaland.” “A few activists, including Mr Padam Lama, former president Dooars committee, joined the Trinamul to manage construction jobs, service in primary schools and other assignments for their livelihoods. They had to resign from the GJMM when the party decided to take steps on the basis of complaints against them,” Mr Adhikari said.
