Dissident factions of All Assam Gorkha Students Union (AAGSU), the apex organisation of Gorkha students and youth of Assam, today came together under the leadership of Jagadish Khanal and Tharka Adhikari.
Marred by divisions in the organisation since 2010, the unification initiative was started six months back on December 26 last year.
The AAGSU, in a statement, said 36 members of the central committee were sworn with Udoy Singh Limboo from Tinsukia and Bhim Bahadur Rai from Golaghat as president and general secretary respectively.
AAGSU Unification Empowered Committee Chief Convenor Harkha Bahadur Chhetry and Convenor Bhaskar Dahal declared the unified committee and administered oath of secrecy and office.
'The first Extended Executive Meeting with all the district committees have been convened on June 22 followed by a Press Conference at Guwahati to chalk out and declare vigorous organisational activities in lines of demand of Gorkha Autonomous Council (GAC) which have been long pending,' said Bhim Bahadur Rai, General Secretary AAGSU.
President Limboo sought support from all section of Gorkha society for the unified AAGSU for better performance and meet the mass expectation in his presidential address today and appealed all fragmented units of various districts and region to attend the 1st Extended Executive to resolve internal issues and unify.
