KALCHINI: Gorkha Janmukti Morcha chief Bimal Gurung who is in the Dooars for the second
time in two months attended a public meeting at Kalchini police ground
today. Addressing about 10,000 supporters, he dismissed allegations
about him substituting the statehood cause with the Gorkhaland
Territorial Administration.
Gurung claimed the GTA is a temporary
solution that would prepare the Hills for self-governance. He warned the
government the GTA could likely be boycotted if it is found to be
ineffective in developing the Hills.
The GJM chief also strongly criticised
Kalchini Congress unit chief Mohan Sharma, accusing him of being self
centered. He said Sharma has betrayed his own kind and become a
sycophant of anti-Gorkha establishments.
Further, Gurung claimed he is in the Dooars due to his love for the people.
Gurung accuses state govt of interfering with GTA projects
Jalpaiguri: Gorkhaland Territorial Administration chief executive Bimal Gurung has alleged of
state government interference behind the delay in a number of projects
in the pipeline. He said GTA representatives would initiate talks with
the central and state governments demanding further division of the
existing eight blocks into 16 blocks to facilitate smooth functioning.
Gurung, who is also the Gorkha Janmukti
Morcha president, was on Friday present with other party leaders at CGM
court of Jalpaiguri in connection with the Sibchu case of 2011. Judge
Choudhury Hifazat Kareem approved the bail plea of Gurung, GJM deputy
chief Ramesh Ali and regional leader Saraswati Pradhan.
Meanwhile, the GJM chief was also
granted bail in a 2009 case registered with Malbazar police station.
Jalpaiguri district court public prosecutor Shanta Chatterjee informed
district judge Rai Chatterjee granted anticipatory bails last week to
Gurung and some other GJM leaders.
Chatterjee further informed Gurung and
the others were granted bail against personal bonds of Rs 1,000 each in
the 2009 case and Rs 4,000 each in the 2011 case.
The Morcha leaders said they had
surrendered before the court to comply with instructions from the high
court. The GJM chief expressed strong resentment with the state
government while answering GT- related queries from the press. While
informing about a number of upcoming projects, he also declared the
party would not compromise with the demand for separate statehood.
Gurung said the demand for Gorkhaland is
a 107-year-old one and now the issue would be addressed directly to the
centre. He also justified the statehood demand by citing Telengana,
which is reportedly on the verge of being created. - EOI
