Kalimpong,Pradip Lohagun: Family
members and relatives of a patient who died in a private clinic here
resorted to vandalism accusing the authorities of negligence.
Ram Tamang (63), a resident of Mansong
Kyasong, died today in Dr. S Ali’s clinic at the supermarket area. He
had been suffering from high fever and was initially taken to Sewa Sadan
Hospital, but as Dr. Ali was unavailable there, he was rushed to the
doctor’s private clinic.
Tamang’s family members claimed he died
due to delay in medical attendance. They said the patient was allotted
the 23rd place in the visitors’ list, but as his condition started to
worsen, the family members requested the doctor to attend to Tamang
first, but it all came to naught. The relatives also said the doctor
entered his clinic around 12:30pm, two hours later than his scheduled
time.
As Tamang laid waiting in a vehicle for
his turn, he started to vomit blood and his health deteriorated further.
He was rushed inside the clinic, but by the time he was attended upon,
Tamang was no more, with Dr. Ali declaring so.
Suddenly there was chaos all around,
with the infuriated relatives smashing and breaking things up until the
police, led by Kalimpong OC Achinta Gupta, appeared to take things under
control.
According to Dr. Ali, he was not
informed about the critical condition Tamang was in and this became
known only when he was brought inside the clinic all of a sudden. He
said he was late getting to the clinic as he was busy with a critical
patient in the civil hospital.
The doctor said Tamang was already dead
by the time he was brought into the clinic. The postmortem report is
awaited to ascertain the exact reason of the death.
