GTA sabashad Arun Sigchi (Munna) from Soureni constituency arrested

GTA sabashad Arun Sigchi (Munna) from Soureni constituency was arrested from Garidhura in Kurseong this morning. It is learnt Sigchi was heading towards Mirik after returning from Kolkata when Garidhura police intercepted his vehicle and took him into custody.

The GTA member was produced at Kurseong Court in the afternoon and has been sent to three days’ police remand at Mirik PS.

Police sources informed Sigchi was arrested following an arrest warrant against him under case numbers 78/13 dated 23/8/13 and 81/13 dated 27/8/13. He has been charged under sections 143, 144, 145, 181, 341, 353, 506, and 120 (b) of the IPC. The police had been looking for Sigchi since the warrant’s issuance several days ago.

Sigchi is the first GTA Shabashad to be arrested after the September 27 GTA meeting held to elect the new chief executive. With his arrest, the number of GTA sabashads behind bars has reached nine.

Meanwhile, GJM leader BP Bhattarai was arrested last night on case numbers 78/13 dated 23/8/13 and 78/13 dated 25/8/13. BP Bhattarai, an ex-army man, is also the public relations officer to Kurseong MLA Rohit Sharma. He has also been charged under IPC sections 143, 144, 145, 181, 341, 353, 506, and 120 (b) of the IPC.(EOI)
