Mahendra P Lama to kick off poll campaign on 9 Nov

Sikkim University vice-chancellor, Mr Mahendra P Lama
Siliguri, 30 October
The noted academic and former Sikkim University vice-chancellor, Mr Mahendra P Lama, who has decided to contest from the Darjeeling constituency for the next year's parliamentary elections as an independent candidate, would kick off the poll campaign at Sukna on 9 November.
"It will be my maiden campaign meeting for the Lok Sabha polls,” Mr Lama said while addressing a Press meet in Siliguri.
Dwelling on the separate statehood demands for the people of the Darjeeling Hills and the Dooars, he said his concept of such a state would not have ethnic identity as its fulcrum. “It would be an inclusive one, taking all, irrespective of ethnicities, on board. We would make the demand of such a state the thrust of our poll campaign,” he said.
Told that the state government has ruled out any possibility of dividing the state, he said they would raise the demand despite resistance and denial.(SNS)
