‘Three other GJMM leaders lodged in same place not fasting’

The senior GJMM leader and GTA member, Mr Binay Tamang, who was elected as the chief executive of the Hill authority on 27 September, has started fasting at Jalpaiguri correctional home from today, protesting against alleged fresh and false charges being slapped against him after his bail plea was granted in some other cases. Mr Tamang was arrested after the fresh statehood movement began from
July-end.
The Darjeeling MLA, Mr Trilok Dewan today visited the Jalpaiguri jail and met Mr Tamang after he embarked on fasting.
According to jail authorities, Mr Tamang refused lunch twice.
The doctors associated with the correctional home have been asked to monitor his health from time to time.
“In case of any deterioration, the doctors would refer him to be hospitalised. At present, he is stable,” a senior officer of the correctional home said.
He further informed that three other GJMM leaders, including Mr Kalyan Kumar Dewan, who are lodged in the same correctional home, are not fasting.
The MLA from Darjeeling, Mr Trilok Dewan told reporters in Jalpaiguri that Mr Tamang was forced to go for fasting with police framing false charges to keep him behind bars.
