Former India football captain Bhaichung
Bhutia, chief executive of the United Sikkim Football Club, has
expressed dissatisfaction with the fixture for the 34th All India
Governors ‘Gold Cup Football Tournament.
Addressing the media today, he said,
“The USFC has been placed in the qualifying round by the Sikkim Football
Association. We had a meeting with SFA members today and have objected
to this. Teams that have never even played in the I-League have been
placed in the quarterfinals. We should have been given the place due
us.”
The former skipper further said top
teams such as Mohammedan Sporting are being paid Rs8 lakh, while the
USFC has been asked to settle for just Rs 10,000. Local players too need
more financial support, he added.
Bhaichung termed the meeting with the
SFA as fruitful. “They have agreed to reconsider both the slot and
financial part,” he said.
There are likely to be some more changes in the fixture by late Wednesday evening, according to SFA sources.
The AIGGC Football Tournament will kick-off from Thursday at the Palzore Stadium in Gangtok.(EOI)
