Tuberculosis patients at the SB Dey
Sanatorium today marched to the Kurseong SDO office and submitted a
deputation demanding proper supply of food to the hospital. More than 20
patients walked a distance of more than 2km to meet the SDO in his
office.
Later, the patients addressed the media
claiming they are being deprived of proper food, both in quantity and
quality. One of them complained they have been deprived of proper food
since months. He added the protesting patients are with empty stomachs
as the cook has gone home for ‘bhai tika’.
The patients also vented their anger on
the hospital management saying it is below standard. The hospital has
become unhygienic and is in a deplorable state. There is also a shortage
of doctors and nurses to assist the 19 male and 22 female patients at
the hospital.
SB Dey Sanatorium superintendent M Saha
refrained from commenting on the issue. However, sanatorium sources said
a complaint has been lodged against the patients at Kurseong Police
station for walking to town without taking consent from sanatorium
superiors.(EOI)
