GJMM to move Calcutta HC for release of jailed leaders

Calcutta HC
Kurseong, 28 November
The confused and anxious Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJMM) party and its legal cell has decided to go to the High Court to scrutinise the matter and find out about ways for the release of the jailed GJMM activists and its GTA Sabha members.
It was learnt that a team of the GJMM Legal Cell met the GJMM chief Mr Bimal Gurung today at Kurseong, where they discussed the present status and the legal matters of the jailed GJMM activists and GTA Sabha members and accordingly they have decided to go to the High Court to find out how they could release their jailed GJMM activists and GTA Sabha members.
Talking to reporters in Kurseong, the GTA member and the GJMM Legal Cell, senior member, Advocate, Mr Taranga Pandit said that under the directive of the GJMM chief Mr Bimal Gurung such a decision has been arrived at.
He said: "We will mainly look into the matter whether the continuous tagging of a new case on the jailed GTA members as soon as they are granted bail on one case is legal or not. In addition, we will also find out ways for their immediate release."
Mr Pandit further added: "However, several GJMM activists, who were arrested during the fresh Gorkhaland agitation, have already been released on bail but important GJMM leaders and GTA members are
still languishing in jail. He
said that even though they have been getting bail on
previous cases, new cases have been frequently tagged on them. Hence, to investigate the trend of tagging
new cases as well as to know whether it is legal or not we have decided to go to the
High Court, within a day or two."
Notably, yesterday only, the Kalimpong MLA and the GJMM senior leader Dr Harka Bahadur Chettri expressed dissatisfaction over the state government’s role regarding
the jailed GJMM activists
and GTA Sabha members.
Mr Chettri told reporters and also ministers in Kolkata that he was really dissatisfied and anxious on the
matter.
As per Dr Chettri, they have already met the chief minister, home secretary, chief secretary and other ministers of the state for the release of the jailed leaders, but even after assurances by them, no proper measures have been taken in reality.(sns)
