Darjeeling, 15 November: To regain its fief, lost to the GJMM in 2007-8,
the GNLF is set to stage a public meeting at Dhotray on the outskirts
of Darjeeling on Sunday. However, it is uncertain whether its chief, Mr
Subash Ghisingh, who has been ailing for some time, would be present.
“Though our leader’s health condition is improving he is unlikely to address the meeting as the doctors attending on him have asked him for rest,” said a senior GNLF leader from Rangbull, Mr Arun Rai.
However, the party has not received the nod of permission from the police for the proposed meeting. Things would be cleared by tomorrow, said Mr Rai. The party’s convener for Darjeeling unit, Mr Indra Mani Rai said that his party has every right to hold a meeting. “Democracy is for free expression through public gatherings,” he said. SNS
