Aathing KP Tamsang 99th birth anniversary observed in Kalimpong

Kalimpong,Pradip Lohagun,20 Jan 2014: The 99th birth anniversary of celebrated Lepcha writer Aathing KP Tamsang was observed today at Pochok Busty in Kalimpong. The programme was presided over by Padmashri Sonam Tshering Bhutia and chief secretary Rumden Lepcha of the Indigenous Lepcha Tribal Association.

Mayel Lyang Lepcha Development Board president Lyangsong Tamsang and MLDB cultural department member NT Lepcha, regional representative Songden Lepcha and Suksing Lepcha were also present, among others.

Aathing Tamsang was the first person to bring the Lepcha language and culture to the limelight. ILTA president Tamsang appealed to members of the Lepcha community to work for the promotion of their language and culture. He said the main aim of the ILTA is to preserve the Lepcha culture and language.

Meanwhile, ILTA chief secretary Rumden Lepcha appealed for unity to ensure the development of the community. Lepcha Youth Association president Suden Lepcha added everyone should work for the betterment of Lepcha youths. He said the state government has already announced the inclusion of Lepcha youths in the state police.
