Kalimpong, Pradip Lohagun: Not
even a day has passed since a survey report by child rights
organization Bal Suraksha Aviyan revealed children being unsafe in the
town, an incident of sexual assault on a minor girl has surfaced in
Kalimpong. Accused Sagar Bhutia aka LS Bunty (25), who is a resident of
11th Mile here, was today arrested by the police.
According to the victim, who is a 13
year old girl, Bunty had been making unwelcomed physical advances
towards her since past six months. The victim has alleged Bunty used to
forcefully expose her to obscene videos in his mobile phone while trying
to physically harass her. The victim’s family said since they had been
living as tenants in Bunty’s house, the girl had not been able to
disclose the matter earlier.
The minor has alleged Bunty used to
sexually harass her when there would be no one else in the house. She
stated when she would be alone with her four year old brother, Bunty
used to take chance to assault her sexually. Reportedly she had
abstained from disclosing the issue fearing expulsion from the house.
However, family sources said she had been urging her mother to shift to
another place since a few months.
The crime came into light only on
January 10 when the victim girl shared the details of the incidents with
one of her neighbours after the family decided to shift into another
house. When her mother came to know about the happenings the matter took
another turn as Bunty’s family tried to dismiss the matter, following
which the family lodged a complaint with the police.
Victim’s mother said, “My daughter
seemed disturbed since past few months but we could not make out the
reasons behind her mood. She spoke to me about the incident only after I
came to know about it through our neighbor.” She added the police
complaint was filed as her daughter herself insisted on it. Meanwhile
the victim has also alleged the house owners used to force her to do
their household works “like a servant”.
