Games and Sports Association will organise the 9th Sukna Gold Cup
Challenge Football Tournament from February 1 to 23, informed the
organisation general secretary Suren Pradhan today at a press conference
held at Siliguri Journalist Club.
Pradhan said a total of 24 teams will participate in this year’s tournament and they will be divided into four groups. The champion team will be awarded Rs 1 lakh while the runner up will receive Rs 50,000, added the general secretary.
He informed many important national and international teams will participate in the tournament which includes Gorkha Brigade of Lucknow, Border Security Forces of Jalandhar, North Bengal Armed Police, Sashastra Sima Bal (Ranidanga), Bhutan CFC, Manipur KGYC, Sukna United, SAI Siliguri, Assam Police among others.
Former Indian footballer IM Vijayan may visit Sukna during the tournament. Moreover, Indian football legend Shyam Thapa will be present to witness the final match, added Pradhan.
The organisers have also requested the state sports minister Madan Mitra to attend the final match of the tournament as the chief guest. (EOIC)
