Krishi Mela 2014 starts at Jamuney Darjeeling  and Reli Kalimpong
Darjeeling, 13 January: Thirteen days of Agro-Horti Techno Fair popularly known as ‘Krishi Mela’ organised by the Gorkhaland  Territorial Administration (GTA) today kick started at Jamuni of Darjeeling and at Reli of Kalimpong.
The GTA will hold the fair for four days. The fair 2014 which is being aimed at rural sectors within the GTA areas ~ will start tomorrow at Rambang near Mirik and at Jogi-Ghat of Kurseong from 15 January. The fair will be held for four days in these areas.
Krishi Mela is being held for the third consecutive year with a motive to promote various sectors related to farming hence to increase the agricultural productivity of the Hills.
Various modern applied techniques in the farming, horticulture, animal husbandry, fisheries and other sectors related to agriculture and related stalls are at display along with cultural events and loads
of entertainment activities have been scheduled at the fair. With its success GTA has plans for ‘Green Revolution’ in the Hills. “Darjeeling possesses all the gift of nature. In past couple of years, the farming sector has been seen neglected but with Krishi Mela being organised for the third time we are able to bring about some positive changes,” said the chief guest of the day, Mr Ramesh Alay, deputy chief GTA adding that, “In the coming years, the GTA has plans of green revolution. We have already started preparing the action plan and will submit the same to the chief Mr Bimal Gurung.”
Mr Alay further said that the GTA has already started various development works and maintained that the works will be done with corruption free. “I am aware that this is not a proper venue to say such but it is sad to note that at a time when the GTA has vowed for development, some of our GTA members are still behind custody. Without them, development work can have major effects.”
“I have requested the superintendent of police that whatever help the district administration needs during the visit of the state chief minister, the GTA is ready to comply,” Mr Alay added.
On the other hand, the GTA executive member of Information and Cultural department Mr Binoy Tamang said: “Under the direction of the Chief Mr Bimal Gurung, the GTA will provide a cash of 500 as an old age pension to forty each members of the constituency. The age limit should be 70 and above.”
Mr Bimal Gurung today attended at the inaugural
ceremony of the agro-horti techno fair at Reli, Kalimpong. Meanwhile, the GTA today released an annual
calendar and a tutorial book for animal husbandry usages.“In the calendar we have also enlisted at least twelve development works undertaken by the GTA and soon we will publish a magazine that will contain all
the tasks the GTA has followed, including the works of two years and that of five years planning,” Mr Tamang said.
Last but not the least, the fair at Jamuney come 20 January onwards will get to see some famous artists from the country and that of Nepal along with locals singing and dancing at the event. Mr Tamang has announced some names that include Miss Sumedha Karmahi and Mr Nakash Aziz both bollywood singers, Mr Karma
Sherpa popular singer from Darjeeling and various other dancers and local artists from Darjeeling or the country are at plans for the event.(SNS)
