TMC urges state govt to fulfill promises

The Darjeeling district hill Trinamool Congress today held a meeting at the Mirik Tourist Lodge where it urged the state government to fulfill the promises it made while signing the GTA accord with the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha and central government. Hill TMC general secretary NB Khawas said the state government should include the Darjeeling hills in the North East Council and provide special status to the region. The government should also take steps to grant autonomy to Darjeeling Government College, he added.

The hill TMC leaders also discussed the future strategy of the party taking into consideration chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s visit to the hills on January 29 and the upcoming general elections. The meeting was attended by hill TMC president Rajen Mukhia, Pravin Rahpal, Binny Sharma, Nanita Gautam, CP Khatiwada and JB Tamang, among others.(EOI)
