With
the schedules of two programmes to be held at the Mela Ground here
clashing, the area was fraught with tension since early Tuesday morning in Kalimpong.
While the Sukbir Rai Memorial Football Tournament is being played at
the ground here since February 1, the Kalimpong Mahotsav Committee was
found busy decorating the ground for a Mela on Tuesday morning. Taken
aback by this, both the tournament organisers and participating teams
started protesting.

Association - a representative team of the tournament organiser - led by
Rohan Mukhia and Mahendra Gurung today met SDO K Radhika Ayer and
sought her intervention. They alleged several matches had to be
postponed due to the unexpected Mela preparations at the ground.
They also submitted a petition to the SDO while requesting her resolve the problem as soon as possible. The SDO has assured the tournament will continue unhindered. However, the Kalimpong Mahotsav Committee, which has also received permission for the Mela from the administration, is continuing with the decorations unfazed.(EOIC)
