Amid the growing optimism, BJP gave no assurance to their ally Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) on the demand of a separate state of Gorkhaland. GJM has announced support to BJP candidate SS Ahluwalia on Darjeeling seat in the Lok Sabha polls.
In their election manifesto, BJP has said that every part of the country deserves to be developed equally and if voted to power, they would ensure that every Indian becomes prosperous.
Presently, the various parts of the country are witnessing uneven development. The eastern part of our country boasts of an exquisite landscape and abundant natural resources but is still under-developed.
In its manifesto, BJP has promised to boost tourism and communication sectors in the eastern parts of the country. The saffron party also assured them of infrastructure development in the region.
BJP also reiterated its commitment towards the cause of smaller states but didn’t promise for it. It’s important to note that states like Odisha, Bihar and Jharkhand had demanded a ‘special status’ for them lately but it was cold shouldered by the UPA government.
It was widely perceived that BJP might flirt with the ‘special status’ issue in its election manifesto. However, it refused to do so as the party realizes that this may boomerang after elections.(http://post.jagran.com)
