Kolkata, 24. May: The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party will meet
on 30 May to prepare a blueprint that will be followed to increase
organisational strength of the party.
“Our mission is the 2016 Assembly election and we are hopeful of doing well in that poll,” Mr Rahul Sinha , state BJP president said today.
District presidents and functionaries will attend the 30 May meeting. This will be followed by a two-day state committee meeting on 7 and 8 June. Leaders who contested in the Lok Sabha polls have been asked to be present.
Mr Sinha said the party's main aim now is to build up its organisational strength keeping in mind elections to 17 municipalities this year and the Kolkata Municipal Corporation next year. State leaders will go to the block level to increase the party's strength and boost workers' morale.
Mr Sinha said all 14 members of the Jharkhali gram panchayat belonging to RSP have joined BJP. The rank and file from various political parties have contacted party leaders. Their applications will be screened before they are inducted. Educated and apolitical youth from all walks of life have also contacted them, he said.
Mr Sinha maintained that chief minister Miss Mamata Banerjee should have attended the swearing-in ceremony of the Prime Minister on 26 May instead of sending Mr Mukul Roy and Mr Amit Mitra. He said, "The Chief Minister decided to stay away from the swearing-in ceremony just to avoid embarrassment because of the unparliamentary language she had used against Narendra Modi during the election campaign. But today or tomorrow she will have to meet the Prime Minister." (SNS)
