BJP candidate Surendra Singh Ahluwalia
has worried North Bengal Development Minister Gautam Deb after
announcement of the poll results in Siliguri, Matigara and Phansidewa.
To defeat Trinamool Congress candidate Bhaichung Bhutia, Deb has raised
eyebrows on the campaigning for Mamata Banerjee’s brigade in the plain
areas of Darjeeling district.
Political observers feel that this is
due to the overconfidence of the Trinamool top leaders and also due to
the pressure on the Gautam Deb who was given various responsibilities,
such as the portfolio of NBDD, chairman of SJDA and many more.
Observers also feel that after the Modi
wave in the country and the victory of Ahluwalia in Darjeeling, there
will be an adverse affect in the upcoming gram panchayat and Siliguri
Municipal Corporation elections.
On the other hand, other opposition
parties including the Congress and the CPIM will have to change their
strategy to survive. The CPIM certainly needs to give a great blow owing
to their defeats in many seats.
Post victory, Ahluwalia said, “Thanks to the people of Darjeeling district for supporting me and blessing me.”
He said that he would promote the Tea,
Tourism and Timber industries and work for its development. He will also
work for drinking water, health and educational purposes for
Darjeeling. The BJP leader said since the Naxalite movement, Naxalbari
has been deprived of developmental projects and to develop the area he
would need to work hard.(EOI)
