Buddha Jayanti celebrations across the Dooars region have already started.
Prayer meetings including Domang recitals and Mahani Monlam were
conducted by lamas in various Gombas. Buddha Jayani falls on Wednesday,
but monasteries in places such as Jaigoan, Torsa, Dalsingpara, Satali,
Kalchini, Raimatang, Gangutia, Chinchula, Machpara-8, Bhatpara and
Central Dooars have already started celebrations.
Sources at Phurba Choying Choyingling Gomba in Central Dooars said the cleaning process and conducting pujas to Buddha statues in the monastery along with Domang recitals started three days ago. Gomba committee senior member Dhurba Gomden said the monastery will organise a massive religious rally, which is expected to be attended by a large number of Buddhists from in and around the Kalchini region.
Similarly, religious rallies, feasts and cultural programmes have also been organised in several Gombas in the area. To mark the occasion, many organisations and associations will arrange refreshments for rally participants. Further, Buddhist workers across all the tea gardens in the Dooars region have been given leave on Wednesday to celebrate the festival.(EOIC)
