Kalimpong,Mukesh Sharma: In view of increasing cyber crimes in the Kalimpong, Kalimpong Police has advised people to exercise some cautions to avoid ATM, cyber frauds. There are a number of cases in which someone has impersonated as bank officer and committed fraud against people by seeking vital information like details of ATM cards, validity period, PIN number etc.
In Charge of Kalimpong Police A .Gupta has today informed that no bank asks for ATM Card number, validity period or PIN number from its account holders. If someone asks for such information over mobile phone or e-mail, people should not disclose it. In case of suspicion, people should contact concerning bank branch. If a person has disclosed details of ATM cards, validity period and PIN number etc to someone, he must inform his bank or call centre immediately. People have been advised to always keep with them phone numbers of concerning bank and call centre so that they can be contacted immediately. One should always carefully read the messages received on his mobile number registered for mobile banking.
Kalimpong Police has registered 5 cases in which fraudsters have obtained transaction passwords of people during internet banking .A complaint of Fraud of Rs 17 thousand Form an account of a Reputed Doctor was recently lodge in Kalimpong Police Station. For avoiding such cyber crimes, the IC has advised people to keep mobile number registered for internet banking only under their own control. He said that if a message or phone call is received from any company to block a SIM and replace it with new SIM without applying for it, then the person concerned should inform the mobile company of the factual position immediately. If this mobile number is linked with any service i.e. mobile or internet banking, it should be immediately blocked.
