The
Mirik Police station has banned the consumption of cigarette, tobacco
and gutka inside the stationand its premises. Mirik PS officer-in-charge
Sanjay Das said the initiative has been taken under the new law passed
by the government in 2012 to ban intake of such substances in public
places and government institutions.
He further informed the police will fine
Rs200 to any person who violates the rule. “Health is wealth as staying
healthy is important for every individual. In order to follow this
principal we have made our police station a ‘No Smoking’ zone,” Das
stated. Three people have paid Rs200 for violating the law since its
implementation. Mirik police is also identifying various other spots in
the town to implement the ban, he added. (EOIC)
