Fake armyman held in Gangtok
Gangtok, 6 May: A 20-year-old youth in the guise of an Indian Army soldier was nabbed by the Army near the Ganju Lama Dwar, the gate of the Gangtok Military Station, on Monday and handed over the police.
Preliminary interrogations revealed that the man is one Bishwadeep Sharma, a resident of Burdwan in West Bengal. Army personnel stopped Mr Sharma for questioning as he was trying to enter the Libing Army Cantonment through the Ganju Lama Dwar.
He was dressed in the uniform of a Lance Naik, while army personnel on duty were suspicious of his movements.
“He has been remanded in two days’ police custody and a joint interrogation team of Sikkim Police, Army and the IB is investigating the case,” Army officials said.
“He was impersonating an Army soldier, and had been carrying a fake identity card that was supposedly issued by the Artillery Centre in Nashik,” Deputy Inspector Genral of Police, M.S Tuli, said.
Police have recovered a map, and ATM debit card and a train ticket from him.    SNS
