Gorkha community’s oldest organisation,
Gorkha Jan Pustakalaya established in 1913, celebrated its 102nd
foundation day on Sunday. Cultural programmes, blood donation camps and
other programmes marked the most important day of the centenary
organisation. The blood donation was participated by a number of
volunteers, while it was conducted under the guidance of medical
officers from Kurseong hospital.
The programme also saw felicitation of
various senior members of the organisation, including the oldest member
IP Sharma (91). Further GJP members also remembered and offered their
prayers to late members of the organisation.
Senior literary figure and Sahitya
Academy Puraskar 2013 recipient, MB Pradhan, was the chief guest for the
function. He said he is happy with the present generation’s grasp in
English language, but suggested they should also focus on their own
language, culture and tradition.
GJP’s senior member LD Moktan
enlightened the occasion by highlighting the history of the organisation
and also emphasized on its deep positive impact on the society.
The GJP secretary Prakash Pradhan said
to take forward the pursuit of excellence in Nepali Literature, an award
dubbed as “Chandrika” will be given to deserving litterateurs from next
year. Similarly, Shri Seva Samman will be given to organizations which
promote and support the growth of literature, culture and tradition of
Gorkha community.(EOIC)
