The demand for a separate state of
+Gorkhaland will once again intensify in the forthcoming winter season,
according to Gorkha Janmukti Morcha sources.
GJM chief Bimal Gurung is reportedly
busy these days meeting various representative bodies to discuss and
plan future programmes regarding the statehood demand. The people of the
hills have also been assured the central government led by the +Bharatiya Janata Party BJP is
sincere towards their longstanding demand.
The GJM sources said their party chief
has been meeting representatives of various communities and
organisations including representatives of the party’s frontal wings.
Gurung has thanked the people for their overwhelming support to ensure a
thumping win for SS Ahluwalia from Darjeeling. At the same time, the
general public has been asked to remain prepared and united for a
renewed agitation for statehood that will be based in Delhi.
Upon his return from Delhi recently,
Gurung told the media all demonstrations demanding statehood would be
focused on the national capital. He also said the central government has
to be given at least six months to properly establish itself to ensure
the smooth functioning of the government machinery. After this period
ends, the GJM will pursue its demand with added vigour and enthusiasm,
the Morcha chief had added.
Gurung’s statements suggest the demand for statehood will get intensified once again from this winter.(EOIC)
