The Hill Tourism Development
Association, Kurseong (HTDAK) met GTA tourism department executive director
Sonam Bhutia Thursday afternoon to discuss possible steps to promote
Kurseong as a major tourist destination.
Bhutia reportedly gave was very positive
and talked about his vision of making Kurseong the most popular tourist
destination in the hills. He said ongoing development works to boost
tourism in Kurseong and its surrounding areas are on full swing and they
include widening and repairing the Old Military Road and cycling trails
across town and beautification of Giddha Pahar and Rohini. The GTA
official said the ropeway project is in full swing and it will boost
tourism in Kurseong.
The HTDAK members also submitted a
10-page memorandum outlining the possible tourism development plans for
Kurseong and its adjacent areas. The association emphasised on the
establishment of a tourist information centre at the Kurseong Railway
Station to guide tourists. The other important constructive suggestions
included in the memorandum were to set up an eco-tree park in Dilaram
and restoration of toy train services between Kurseong and Tindharay,
among others.
HTDAK president Sushil Kr Dhishit, vice president Nabin S Thapa and secretary Jeetu Giri were present at the meeting. (EOIC)
