Kurseong MLA Rohit Sharma today
presented an ambulance to the Government Cinchona Plantation Hospital of
Lathpunchar from the MLA fund.
A programme was held at the premises of
the BDO office in Kurseong for the presentation. Pujas and other rituals
were performed before the ambulance was handed over to representatives
of the hospital.
Kurseong municipality chairman Samirdip
Blon, GTA sabhasad Yogendra Rai, Government Cinchona Plantation Hospital
manager NK Baraily and other representatives of the cinchona plantation
and the BDO office were also present at the event.
Talking to reporters later, MLA Sharma
said when he visited the Lathpunchar area some days ago he found the
area was in desperate need of an ambulance.
He added ever since the formation of the
GJM, its chief Bimal Gurung has been working for the interest of the
common people. The gifting of the ambulance is also a part of Gurung’s
efforts to help the needy, he added.
Sharma further assured other issues and problems being faced by Latpunchar will also be considered in the forthcoming days.
Hospital manager Baraily said the
hospital once had an ambulance, but ever since it broke down in 2005,
the hospital has been operating without such a service. Area residents
have faced a lot of trouble due to this and many have been forced to
hire private vehicles for transporting patients.
Kurseong BDO Bhutia said crucial
equipment including a stretcher and an oxygen cylinder have also been
installed in the ambulance, which is a brand new Bolero-Plus costing
about Rs7 lakh.(EOIC)
