Kalimpong,Mukesh Sharma: After nearly 3 years of devastating earthquake of 18 Sept 2011 many of the victim are yet to receive the compensation from the government. One such fact of a Town surrounding Gram Panchayat has been revealed by A R.T.I filed by Padam Rai a resident of Kalimpong Bhalukhop G.P.
Being a victim of the earthquake Padam Rai around 70 years age works as a vendor in kalimpong court and is a member of CPI(ML) who had filed a series of RTI to know the fact as to who have been listed and who have received the grant. After taking out the beneficiaries list of 206 family whose house were partially damage from Block one this January he again filed a RTI to the DM asking about the names of those who have been given compensation and surprisingly when the reply came from Block office last month on 13 out of 206 only 91 of the beneficiaries has been granted a Sum of 5000 each.
Padam Rai told out of 91 he is the one but this is not fair the rest 115 are my villagers who should also get the relief.
Meanwhile when asked about the fact of RTI , Bimalendu Das block one BDO said that no fund has been allocated to the rest left. He assured that when fund comes to his office the beneficiaries will receive the grant.
But Padam Rai has raised a question today as to why when a natural calamity occurs the beneficiaries instead of getting quick relief have to wait so long.
