Famous musician and singer Shambhu Rai of Nepal today held an interactive session with the journalists of Sikkim here.
Rai has been invited to perform at
Manan Kendra, Gangtok on July 13, the occasion of Bhanu Jayanti, by the
Nepali Sahitya Parishad, Sikkim. He will also be felicitated for his
invaluable contributions to Nepali music.
During the interactive session, Rai
shared his struggles in order to attain fame. “I am very excited to
perform here in Sikkim after 21 years and am hopeful the Sikkimese
people will shower me with the same love and affection I received back
in 1991,” he said.
Rai has sung almost 1,000 songs so far
and has also composed many scores for Nepali movies. Some of his famous
tracks are – ‘Chitti timilai’ and ‘Chaley cha bataash sustari’.
He also expressed his gratitude towards the Bhanu Jayanti celebration committee for inviting him to Sikkim.
Piracy has become a major problem for
music artistes these days and the government must come up with some
special measures to stop this, noted Rai.
Divya Bhandari, another popular singer
from Nepal, also shared her experiences saying it’s always great to be
in Sikkim. “The ambience, culture and the warmth of the people here
makes me feel at home’, she said.
Pramila Rai, Shambhu Rai’s wife, has also accompanied the singer to Sikkim.(EOIC)
