Two young kick boxing champions has made
the Darjeeling hills proud by their prowess at a national level kick boxing championship held in Bandipur, Jammy and Kashmir on June 22-24.
Sachin Tamang won gold in the tournament in the 15-18 year age category,
while Shiv Gurung won the silver medal in the under-15 category. In the
tournament participated by kick boxers from 22 states, Sachin defeated
his competitor from Punjab in the finals, while Shiv lost to his
competitor from Haryana.
Sachin and Shiv are close friends and
schoolmates from Rainbow English Medium School in Panighatta. They said
their hard work and support from their trainer Bishal Rai, school
principle Amit Chettri, teachers Anmol Chettri, Prabhakar Thapa and
Uttam Thakuri were instrumental in their win. The duo participated in
the competition led by their coach Bishwanath Rai. They have already
participated in different competitions, including one national level
championship, two district level competitions and four state level
tournaments.
The two champions said they will now
focus on international level tournaments along with their academics.
Sachin and Shiv have dedicated their success in the championship to
their respective families and the Darjeeling district.(EOIC)
