Eco-tourism cottages at Tiger Hill in Darjeeling
The West Bengal government is planning to build eco-tourism cottages at Tiger Hill in Darjeeling for the tourists.
West Bengal Chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who trekked to Tiger Hill to explore tourism potential on Wednesday, told reporters: "Thousands of tourists come to Tiger Hill. There will be eco-tourism cottages for the tourists. I have asked the Forest and Tourism Department to jointly take it up".
Mamata participated in the closing ceremony and prize distribution programme in Himal Terai Dooars Sports Festival.
"Our Government had started this event in 2013. Nearly 7000 sports persons from the Hills and Dooars took part in football, martial art, archery and volleyball," she said.
The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration chief and head of the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha Bimal Gurung was present at the programme.
Stressing on unity of people in the plains and the hills, the Chief Minister called for sustaining peace in feeling which had returned after bandhs recently crippled life over the demand for a separate Gorkhaland.
A girls' hostel of Himalayan Mountaineering Institute for women mountaineers was inaugurated on the occasion.(EOIC)
