JK Tyre Himalayan Drive car rally in Siliguri
Around 30 teams will participate in the third edition of JK Tyre Himalayan Drive car rally  in association with The Telegraph, JK Tyres and the state tourism department, which will be flagged off from City Centre on the outskirts of Siliguri .

The four-day cross-country car rally is organised by the Calcutta-based Just Sportz Management Private Limited.

The rally will be flagged off from City Centre at 9am  and will cover 700km in four legs.

The first leg would be from Siliguri to Darjeelingtomorrowand the second legwill start from Darjeeling and end at Murti in the Dooars on Friday. On Saturday, leg three would be a return journey to Murti after covering the Dooars and Cooch Behar. The final leg will be back to Siliguri from Murti via Gajoldoba.

"This year, we have around 30 teams participating in the rally. Each team will have a driver and a navigator. The good news is that there are 15 local teams this time. This proves that adventure sports is becoming popular in north Bengal which is our main objective. In the first and second editions of Himalayan Drive, we had only three and eight local teams respectively. Apart from that, we have participants from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Assam this year," said Tamal Ghosal, the director of Just Sportz.

Defending champions Sudip and Arindam Ghosh too would participate in the rally this year as well. National-level champions Md Mustafa, Asgar Ali, Nirav Mehta, Sourav Chatterjee, Ashoke Bhattacharya and Subir Roy are among the other participants.

"For the first time this year, two teams from the Siliguri metropolitan police and one team from BSF will also participate in the rally. This is a great encouragement for us," said Ghosal.

As the theme of the event is "Beautiful Bengal", the slogan of the state tourism, officials of the department said the route had been chosen to showcase potential tourist locations which have not yet been explored.
