Following
their successful fundraising musical concert ‘Strings Concert Tour
Project’ in Kalimpong and Gangtok, the talented kids from Gandhi Ashram
School are all set to perform at the Loreto Convent School, in
Darjeeling on Saturday, June 27.
According to the Gandhi Youth Group
alumnus, Pratap Chettri, the concert aims to bring together 44 talented
string musicians from all over the hills to raise fund for the students
of the music school who are either orphans or underprivileged.
In Gangtok, the orchestra performed on World Music Day i.e June 21 in front of music lovers and the Governor of Sikkim.
Gandhi Ashram School is a Jesuit Mission
school in Kalimpong, for disadvantaged children from the region. It was
founded in 1993 by Father Edward McGuire, a Jesuit priest from Canada.
The school aims
to provide nourished formal education,
also letting the children explore their talents, and express themselves,
especially through music in the form of stringed instruments. (HS)
