While the Bengal government spent crores to organize "Uttar Bango Utsav" in Darjeeling, along with organizing a grand Netaji Jayanti celebrations at Chowrasta, the Netaji memorial house in Giddhey Pahar near Kurseong was completely ignored by Mamata.
The Netaji Memorial house in Kurseong, is the place where he was kept under house arrest by the British for 7 months in 1936, that place has a direct personal connect to Netaji, and is also home to Netaji Institute for Asian Studies.
This begs the question, will Bengal government ever truly respect our Freedom Fighters? or will they continue to let publicity take over purity in showing respect to our icons?re grander program at Chowrasta and did not show any interest or inclination in attending the functions at Kurseong.
Given Mamata's program at Chowrasta, most of the district officials who were supposed to attend the celebrations in Kurseong yesterday also decided to give it a skip.
While Gorkhaland Territorial Administration Sabhasad Mr. Yogendra Rai unveiled the flag and paid his respects to Netaji, no one from TMC bothered to attend.
It is sad that today, these important markers of our country's freedom struggle - such as Netaji's Jayanti - has gone on to become a platform used by politicians to gain popularity.
