Dimapur Gorkha Union (DGU) conducted blood donation drive on 74th Martyr’s Day
Commemorating the 74th Martyr’s Day of the first Gorkha martyr Maj. Durga Malla (Indian National army) and honouring Kargil martyr captain N Kengurüse (Mahavir Chakra), Dimapur Gorkha Union (DGU) conducted a blood donation drive on August 25.
The donation drive was organized on Saturday at District Hospital Dimapur (DHD) assisted by Dr. Temsu in-charge of Dimapur District Blood Bank, District Hospital Dimapur, and team.
Before the donation drive, a short program was held where DGU chairman Kumar Subha gave a talk on the contribution of Maj. Durga Malla who sacrificed his life for the cause of Indian Independence. He maintained that the DGU had been conducting blood donation camps for the last few years, and this was its eighth donation camp.

Every year more than a hundred units have been donated to the government blood bank of the state, which is the highest in the state in any one day donation camp. 
He also mentioned that all expenditure for the camp is borne by the union and no monetary help is received from the government to organize the camp. Subha also said that the union comprises of 23 units and that they would continue the drive even in the days to come.
Dr. Temsu while delivering his speech maintained that the initiative had been continuing since it started in the year 2011. In 2011, 120 units were collected, 2012-210, 2013-189, 2014-165, 2015-123, 2016-163 and 2017-107 making a total of 1077 units collected over the past seven years.
A short speech was delivered by GSUD president Sunil Limbu. 
The program was followed by the donation drive where members of Gorkha units of Dimapur district participated.

The program was chaired by DGU joint secretary, Samir Gurung. A total of 80 donors donated blood in the camp.
GPPK observes ‘Balidan Diwas’
Balidan Diwas was also organized by the Gorkha Public Panchayat, Kohima (GPPK) in association with the Gorkha NGOs at Gorkha Public Panchayat Hall, Chandmari, Kohima on August 25.
A press release from GPPK press & publicity secretary, Anup Rana stated that, while speaking on the occasion Santu Thapa, president, GPPK highlighted the significance of Balidan Diwas, emphasizing on the supreme sacrifices made by Saheed Major Durga Malla, a Gorkha soldier in the freedom movement of India and also the sacrifice made by Saheed Capt. Neikezhakuo Kenguruse in the Kargil war. Gayatri Devi, advisor GPPK also spoke during the occasion and spoke about the sacrifices made by the families of the martyrs especially the wives. 

The program began with Deep Prajwalan and paying rich floral tributes to the gallant heroes by the Gorkha leaders, GB and the Gorkha Assam Rifles ex-servicemen. A patriotic song was presented by members of Vivela Club, Kohima, while the function was presided over by Suresh Kumar Lama, general secretary, GPPK. Welcome address was delivered by Probhu Gurung, vice president, GPPK and vote of thanks by Jibon Pradhan, panchayat secretary, GPPK.
