Darjeeling: The Trinamool Congress and the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) have started oiling the party election machinery in the Darjeeling constituency for forthcoming general elections. An alliance has been forged between the TMC and the GJM. "We are constantly holding organisational meeting at different levels for the forthcoming elections. On Saturday, Arup Biswas the party observer will be arriving. At 11am we will be having a meeting with the GJM leadership at the TMC party office in Siliguri to chalk out the way forward" stated Goutam Deb, Darjeeling district President, TMC.
Arup Biswas will hold meetings in Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri on March 17. On March 18, there will be a workers' meeting at Indoor Stadium, Siliguri at 2 pm. State Tourism minister Goutam Deb will be heading to Malda and Balurghat to attend party election meetings and will return to Siliguri on March 18. On March 19, both Biswas and Deb will be heading to the Hills to attend a joint workers meeting to be held at the Gorkha Stadium, Lebong, Darjeeling.
Regarding campaigning, Deb stated: "We have started writing on walls. Permissions for writing on walls are being sent to the TMC booth offices." Posters in support of candidate Amar Singh Rai are being printed and distributed. In the next seven days the printing will be completed and distribution will start. "A joint election manifesto will also be prepared locally highlighting what the TMC and GJM have done and what they intend to do if voted to power," added Deb. TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee will be coming to the constituency for campaigning. State Transport minister Suvendu Adhikari will be addressing a meeting at Chopra on March 24.
