So far, at least 151 doctors in West Bengal have resigned over the Kolkata hospital violence case.
Doctors in Kolkata, West Bengal, have been on strike for the past four days after a mob attacked a junior doctor at the Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College and Hospital (NRSMCH) on Monday night.
The assault took place after the death of a 75-year-old patient at Kolkata’s NRS Hospital whose family had alleged medical negligence.
Protests, demanding protection for doctors, continued on Friday in many other parts of the country-- Mumbai, Patna, Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram and Jaipur -- which has hampered medical services at many hospitals.
Medical services were disrupted in outdoor facilities and many other departments of government medical colleges and hospitals, media reports said.
Later in the day, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to hold a meeting with a panel of top doctors in Kolkata in order to end the impasse.
Earlier, Mamata Banerjee had visited Kolkata's SSKM Hospital where she urged the agitating doctors to withdraw the ongoing protest and warned them of "strong action" if the agitation does not end.
