Siliguri firing incident toll rises to 2,CITU leader killed

Siliguri, Aug 1: CITU leader Raju Yadav, who was batting for life after being shot on head and chest by unidentified gunmen on Saturday, today succumbed to his wounds at a private nursing home, forcing the Opposition CPI(M) to call Siliguri bandh tomorrow.
Raju's relative Surendra Yadav, who came from Bihar, died on the spot when the miscreants shot at them at Siliguri Regulated market near Champasari under Pradhan Nagar police station.
Police said CITU leader Raju Yadav alias Rajkumar Yadav (38) was admitted to Dr Chang Nursing home at Matighara with serious injuries but succcumbed this morning.
Panic gripped further in the area after the report of death and reinforcement was rushed in to face any eventuality, police said.
Two suspects - Mohan Yadav and Amarjit Yadav - of Pradhan Nagar were arrested in this connection and remanded to the police custody by a local court.
The shooting incident was a sequel to an ongoing tussle to lord over the union of the regulated market, the main supplier of vegetables in the region.
Meanwhile, the CPI(M) had called for a 12-hour bandh in this sub-division tomorrow to protest the incident.
CPI(M) leader and former urban development minister Asok Bhattacharya alleged the ruling Trinamool Congress (TC) was behind the crime.
Addressing a media conference, Mr Bhattacharya alleged that after the Trinamool came to power, crime graph went upswing in the state.
The CPI(M) yesterday called Siliguri bandh but later withdrew and restricted to only the Siliguri Regulated Market.
