An earthquake of slight intensity, measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale, shook the border region between the Indian state of Sikkim and Nepal in the early hours of today.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the quake, which had its epicentre at latitude 27.9 degrees North and longitude 88 degrees East, occurred at 0151 hours today at a depth of 50 km.
