Siliguri, (UNI) Dec 29 : Property worth about Rs one crore was damaged in a devastating fire at a paper mill in Bidhanagar area under this sub-division today.
Fire Brigade sources said the blaze was noticed around 0500 hours. Four engines from Matigara and Siliguri rushed to control the fire. The operation lasted about three hours.
Sources said the fire broke out in the groundfloor of a two-storied building.
Initially, the staff of the building, locals and the Bidhanagar Police tried to fight off the blaze.
Meanwhile, police said a case would be lodged against the owners if there was any lack of fire-fighting equipment.
Incidentally, two persons had been arrested recently and their godowns sealed after fire broke out in the godowns housed in two multi-storied buildings. The godowns lacked fire-fighting equipment.
Likewise, a guest house-cum-hotel here was sealed after a fire as it lacked the necessary equipment.
