Mukesh Sharma: The police have busted two different vehicle thefts from Kalimpong 3rd Mile and Lohapul along the NH31A respectively within 24 hours of the stealing. A Bolero bearing no WB 73B-6352 which was parked at the roadside at 3rd Mile Kalimpong on Wednesday night was driven during mid-night, but they were caught by the locals at Birpara and handed over to Birpara police. The thieves have been identified as Prasunjeet Das (28) of Pukurgadi and Bijay Rai (19) of Haatighisa. Both of the accused were today brought before Kalimpong Court and have been sent for seven days of police remand at Kalimpong police station. The owner of the vehicle Santosh Prashad alleged that the belongings of the vehicle have been missing and the number plate too has been altered to WB 74A 0865.Similarly another Bolero bearing no WB 74Q 2801 which was on NHPC duty was dashed away by the thieves at Lohapul during mid-night. The vehicle was left alone at Birpara road and the thieves ran away. The police have seized the vehicles. The accused have been charged under Act 379 of the IPC. The case is under investigation said the Kalimpong police.The police source also informed that the thieves had plans to sell the vehicles in the North Eastern region.
