Roshan Giri gets no top post in GTA

Kolkata Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) general secretary Roshan Giri appears to have been sidelined in the newly formed Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA).
While Giri was widely tipped to be the deputy chief executive in GTA, GJM president and GTA chief executive Bimal Gurung today named Col Ramesh Alley of Kalimpong for the post. Alley has been one of the key officials of the Ex-Service men and held charge of the training programme for the Gorkhaland Personnel cadres.

The move comes as a surprise given that Giri is the public face of GJM and Number 2 in the outfit after Gurung. He used to represent the outfit in meetings with government officials and act as the intermediary between the party and the government.
It is, however, being said that Giri will be given a portfolio.
According to sources in GJM, Giri was not accommodated in GTA due to his alleged involvement in the murder of All India Gorkha League leader Madan Tamang. There are chances that the CBI, which is investigating the case, may book Giri.
A senior GJM leader said, “Roshan Giri’s involvement in the Tamang murder case is one reason of him being sidelined in the party. What has happened was quite expected. There are several other political reasons why he was isolated in the party and in the GTA.”
Giri said, “I have no idea why has this happened. Today my name has been announced as an executive member. I am now waiting for the department that will be assigned to me. I still have no clue which department will be given to me.” Giri, however denied comment on him being sidelined in the party and in the GTA.
Gurung today announced six names of the executive members of GTA, which included Roshan Giri, Binay Tamang, Anit Thapa, Phuli Rai, Prabha Chetri and Ramadin Bhujel.

He also named L B Pariyar and Trilok Dewan, MLA of Darjeeling, as advisors to the GTA.
