IMPHAL – President Pranab
Mukherjee will flag off the North East India On Top of the World (Mt
Everest) expedition from Rastrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on March 20 next
year. “This is as per the communication dated September 15 received
from the office of the President of India,”says PRO Santosh Sekhar of
the NE expedition.
Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh is the chief
patron of the expedition along with State Chief Secretary DS Poonia as
the Chef De Mission.The first NE India Mt Everest expedition to be executed for the first time by the State Government will have the first lady climber Anshu Jamsenpa, who scaled Mt Everest twice.
Besides, 15-year-old boy N Chingkheinganba will also take part in the expedition.
Currently the expedition participants include Nima Lama (Arunachal Pradesh), Tarun Saikia and Manish Deka (Assam), Akum Yimchunger (Nagaland), Kazi Sherpa and Mohon Bishwakarma (Sikkim), Wangsuk Myrthong (Meghalaya), David Zohmangaiha and Vanlalliana (Mizoram), Puyamcha Mohon, Athokpam Robert, N Bidyapati Devi, Maibam Shanta and Dr Nelson (Manipur).
All these climbers are on a pre-everest expedition to Mt Papsura (6445metres) in Himachal Pradesh.
